9 Books in 2013

Standard

I’m a little disappointed with myself. I was only able to read 9 books this year compared to last year’s 12. But it’s ok. I guess I spent too much time traveling and wandering this year. 9 is not that bad.

  • Hey Whipple, Squeeze This. A Guide to Creating Great Advertising
  • A Storm of Swords
  • Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit
  • The Adweek Copywriting Handbook
  • Curious Wine
  • The Tipping Point
  • 48 Laws of Power
  • The Hunger Games
  • Catching Fire

I’ve started reading Thinking Fast and Slow and A Feast of Crows so I guess I’ll be able to finish those by next year.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

2013 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2013 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A New York City subway train holds 1,200 people. This blog was viewed about 6,100 times in 2013. If it were a NYC subway train, it would take about 5 trips to carry that many people.

The Rendezvous

Have I met you?
I wonder. Because I’ve been
meaning to meet you.

If I have already met you
and I didn’t notice, I’m sorry.
I have been preoccupied with other things. Lots of other things.

Have I met you?
I wonder. Because if I have,
I’d like for us to meet again.
If that’s okay with you.

However, if I haven’t met you and you’re still out there waiting
or taking your time, or preoccupied with something,
I’d like to meet you.

I may not know when or where or how,
But if you decide to pass by, please let me know it’s you.
So I can say hi.

I Love You Goodbye

If Panday was a let down, I Love You Goodbye was even more disappointing! I mean, I kinda expected Panday to suck (I hoped it didn’t, but it did). But after watching this movie, my initial reaction was: HA?!

I get the story. I even accepted the Gabby Conception-Angelica Panganiban tandem (even if it’s icky)! But why?! Why Ms. Laurice Guillen? Why? Why is the word CONTRIVED written all over the film? Is it to be different? To make the story unpredictable? Everything was just so… unbelievable.

In my opinion, the film failed miserably.

I give it 1.5 stars.

I’m a big fan of Panday movies. So when I saw the trailer, I said to myself: Wow! I’m going to watch it!

Unfortunately, as expected, it was crap. The cinematography was ugly. The editing was bad. Most, if not all of the costumes are bad ripoffs. The script/story was awful. The acting was laughable. And what the hell was that make-up? Philip Salvador, didn’t look mean or scary. He just looked like an ugly clown. I mean, I can’t think of anything good to say about the film except for the good visual effects. Such a waste. SUCH A WASTE! Continue reading

I have heard about this film but I hadn’t seen the trailer so I had no idea what the film was about when I watched it. I had no expectations.

My first reaction was… WOW! James Cameron was able to create something like that? It was such a visual treat! He was able to make people believe that such a place exists.

But when you think about it, when you strip down the film and take away the spectacular visuals, you’d be left with a very familiar story. Different characters, different setting, same old Hollywood formula. You’ll see that Jake and Neytiri have a lot in common with Jack and Rose (which is a bit disappointing).

Note to the reader: Do not watch this film with someone who has studied filmmaking. He/She might just spoil the fun (lol). Continue reading
